AQUA FLAME IN AEROSPACE

Aqua Flame Systems’ micro-welders are used throughout the aerospace industry for the assembly and termination of lightweight electrical wiring harnesses. Modern aircraft rely on dense looms of fine-gauge wire, where every gram of weight and every millimetre of space is accounted for.

The precision of the Aqua Flame flame is what makes it suitable for this work. Heat is delivered exactly where it is needed and nowhere else, so connectors, insulation and neighbouring conductors are not damaged during soldering. This allows technicians to work confidently on tightly packed assemblies that would be at risk with a conventional torch or a broad heat source.

AQUAFLAME CAN PERFORM THE FOLLOWING TASKS:

  • Precision Welding and Micro-Soldering: Aerospace manufacturing demands immense precision for intricate electronic components, internal sections, sensors, and thin wiring. The system produces a highly focused flame ideal for these detailed tasks.
  • Annealing and Component Repairs: The precise thermal control allows technician crews to work on low-melting-point metals or perform localized structural heat treatment without risking heat damage to adjacent aircraft components.
  • Investment Casting Wax Assembly: In aerospace foundries, the torch is used in investment casting (lost-wax casting) wax rooms to assemble and clean up wax patterns. The torch melts rather than burns the wax, ensuring a cleaner assembly. This significantly reduces inclusions and structural defects in the final cast components, such as turbine blades.
  • Wax Assembly Clean-Up: It is used to clean up wax pattern assemblies by melting rather than burning the wax. This eliminates the heavy smoke, carbon build-up, and fumes associated with traditional "hot knife" or spatula methods.
  • Reduction of Casting Inclusions: Because the hydrogen flame provides an exceptionally clean heat source, it prevents carbon contamination in the wax room. This results in a cleaner mould and significantly reduces structural inclusions in the final cast components.
  • Precision Jointing: Operators use the micro-flame to construct smooth radial joints on the runner/gating systems. This optimizes metal flow during the pour, eliminates parting lines, and seamlessly fills voids or undercuts.

    Operational Advantages of Oxyhydrogen Clean-Up

  • Elimination of Carbon Inclusions: Traditional hot knives scorch the wax, embedding microscopic carbon fragments into the runner system. When the ceramic shell is fired, these fragments turn into structural voids or inclusions in the metal. The Aquaflame torch provides an exceptionally clean hydrogen flame, leaving zero carbon residue behind.
  • Flawless Defect Remediation: Rather than scraping the wax pattern, operators use interchangeable micro-nozzles to effortlessly smooth out mould lines. The precise flame liquefies sticky wax instantly, causing it to flow naturally into pinholes and undercuts for a flawless surface.
  • Non-Contact Thermal Control: Physical spatulas often apply uneven pressure, flexing or breaking delicate wax assemblies. The gas-generated micro-flame allows operators to seal cones onto runner bars and navigate tight spaces without ever making physical contact with the pattern
